With winter storms sweeping the planet, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, now is as appropriate of a time as ever to take a look at some winter-driving tips. Driving on ice is neither advisable nor fun. Indeed, it can be extremely dangerous. Lack of control is just one of many problems that can result from driving on even thin layers of ice. People who live in areas where it regularly snows do not need tips, but those who live in areas where icing is not an annual occurrence–find articles like this to be of some help when the winter time approaches. The rear-wheel skid is the most notorious of the ice-driving problems:
“You always want to turn into the direction of the skid,” he said. ”The rear end’s going to stop. It’s going to start to come back.
“You make your correction, then just before the rear end gets back, you have to straighten out the wheels.”
This is solid advice and you will hear driving instructors all over the world give the same advice. Driving on ice is not advisable, but if you must do it–do your homework before you get out there. More than a few wrecks each year are caused by ice in areas where ice driving is an unexpected challenge.
